BOOK REVIEW | SADIE BY COURTNEY SUMMERS (SPOILER FREE)

Title: Sadie
Author: Courtney Summers
Pages: 261
Publisher: Wednesday Books
Published date: 4 September 2018
Genre: Mystery, Thriller

A missing girl on a journey of revenge. A Serial―like podcast following the clues she's left behind. And an ending you won't be able to stop talking about.

Sadie hasn't had an easy life. Growing up on her own, she's been raising her sister Mattie in an isolated small town, trying her best to provide a normal life and keep their heads above water.

But when Mattie is found dead, Sadie's entire world crumbles. After a somewhat botched police investigation, Sadie is determined to bring her sister's killer to justice and hits the road following a few meager clues to find him.

When West McCray―a radio personality working on a segment about small, forgotten towns in America―overhears Sadie's story at a local gas station, he becomes obsessed with finding the missing girl. He starts his own podcast as he tracks Sadie's journey, trying to figure out what happened, hoping to find her before it's too late.

Courtney Summers has written the breakout book of her career. Sadie is propulsive and harrowing and will keep you riveted until the last page. (Source: Goodreads)

I'm not a fast reader but I read this in one day. I was immersed into it. This book is about Sadie who went missing in search for her sister's muderer. This was told in podcasts and narration alternatingly. This book was actually my first time reading a podcast format and I must say, I love it. I'm looking forward to more podcast books. If you happen to know any, let me know in the comment section below!

I feel like Sadie is a strong character. She is well-fleshed out. It's almost as if I can see her. It feels like I know her personally. She's the kind of character you can't help but root for. You want her to have a happy ending. You want to be there and support what she's doing because you know she did it for a good purpose.

The plot was slow at times. At one point, I questioned why the author described Sadie breaking into a motel room in details, but I don't really mind because it gives me clearer image of Sadie and made her felt more real.

The author revealed the mystery only a little and I found this made me kept reading. It was intriguing from page to page. You could say this book is a page turner, I guess.

This book talks about heavy stuff; drug addiction, child abuse and pedophilia. So bear with how brutal it might get.

Right after I finish, I was shaken up. I got afraid of the real world and my heart broke for the people who went through the same thing.

I'm planning to read more by Courtney Summers because I think her writing is not so simple but not too dense as well. The way she writes, you can feel her heart in it.

A lot of people had problems with the ending, but I think it depicts the real world. I love how realistic this book is. Though I understand the ending is quite disappointing. But don't let it stop you from reading this important book.
